Walt Frederick

General Manager, Topeka

Walt Frederick is the General Manager for Million Air Topeka, Kansas, at Forbes Field (KFOE).  Walt Frederick is a retired colonel from the Kansas Army National Guard with nearly 30 years of military service.  He has over 25 years of aviation experience, mostly in aviation operations and is a commercial helicopter pilot, as well as a licensed airplane pilot.  During his military career, he held a number of assignments at all levels of command, including company operations officer, company commander, battalion personnel officer, commander of an Army Aviation Support Facility, battalion executive officer, battalion commander, Chief of Staff for the 35th Infantry Division, Director of Aviation, Director of Personnel and Chief Information Officer.

Walt is the State Chairman of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) in Kansas.  ESGR is a DoD Agency that seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. ESGR facilitates and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies, resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members, and acting as the employers’ principal advocate within DoD.  Paramount to ESGR’s mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective and proven leadership to the civilian workforce.

Walt’s military education includes the Officer Candidate School, Transportation Officer Basic and Advance Course, Aviation Maintenance Officer Course, Officer Rotary Wing Aviator Qualification Course, Command and General Staff College, Defense Strategy Course, Tarhe (Skycrane) helicopter qualification course, Black Hawk helicopter qualification course, Chief Information Officer Certification Course, and the U.S. Army War College.  He also holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree, Master’s of Strategic Studies, and Master’s of Science in Management.

His military awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal with one service star, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Senior Army Aviator Badge and the Kansas Distinguished Service Medal Kansas.  He is a member of the Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame, Fort Benning, Georgia, Bronze Award, The Order of St Michael.
